The durag is one of the accessories that appeared in the 20th century. It was part of African American people's outfits, as it helped them keep their hairs in place. Today, the durag is one of the fashion accessories that many people wear around the world. As you could have imagined, there are, thus, different types of durag. However, some people do not know how to tie a durag, though they like it. Fan of durag? Here are some of the tips you can use to tie your durag, depending on its type.
Use the traditional technique to tie a durag
There are several techniques to tie a durag and the first one is the traditional one. Using this technique to tie your durag waves is pretty long but efficient once you are done. The first step is to find the center of the fabric. The latter shall be placed on your head, depending on this center seam. That being said, the center should actually be placed at the center of your head.
The second step is to place the front edges of the durag between your eyebrows and your hairline to cover the hairline. Once this step is completed, you'll have to gather the strings back to your head by pulling them over your ears. Crossing the strings in an X shape, you can bring them back to your forehead. Here again, the X shape is needed to bring the strings back to the head before tying them. This is a long procedure, but when it is done well, the result is absolutely aesthetic!
Tie a durag with the side technique
The second technique on our list is the side technique. Though it is quite identical to the first method, this one is pretty simple. In fact, you'll have to do the same first steps here as for the traditional technique: find the center seam and place it at the center of your head on the same line as your nose. Then place it in between the eyebrows and the hairline.
However, things change a little bit after this stage once you have reached the X-crossing step at the forehead. Instead of pulling the strings back, you can just tie them up at any side of the head, provided that the knot is visible. This is indeed, one of the popular tactics to tie a durag. And we highly recommend it as it is simple and quick to complete.
Using the front method to tie a durag
Last but not least, this procedure is the third one you can use to tie your durag. Similar to the previous one, it offers you the possibility to tie your durag at the front of your head. How? Just use the same steps as for the side technique but tie the cords at the forehead X-crossing step. You can thus change the knot into different styles as you wish.
There is something to know, however. Tying a durag depends on the type of the durag you have. Some types, as the satin and velour durags are easy to tie with the traditional method due to their long length. Meanwhile, other durags such as silk and velvet durags are perfect for the two other techniques as they are versatile and trendy. In any case, you can customize your durag as you wish. Those techniques are not standard, just some tips to help tie it as a pro!
